Lenten Message and Letter to the Community re. Safe Drinking Water

Dear families,

We hope you were able to enjoy a safe and Happy Family Day weekend.  We have two messages we would like to relay to you.  The first is a Lenten message from our Director of Education, Michael Glazier, in addition to some ideas for fasting during the season of Lent.  Both can be found below.  The second is a letter that is attached regarding lead testing that was done at our school.  There was a fixture in Room 16 (Special Education Resource Room) that had been out of service for several years which we believe contributed to values that exceeded acceptable levels of lead when tested.  A new tap set was installed and then the sink was re-tested and was well within acceptable levels.  The Wellington Catholic District School is required to report this to the community and all the information can be found in the attachment.

Lenten message from our Director of Education, Michael Glazier

This week marks the beginning of Lent. Pope Francis calls Lent a journey of conversion, through fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. While it may not feel like we have anything left to “give up” during Lent in this pandemic, we can turn our hearts and hands to our care for others. “To experience Lent with love,” says Pope Francis, "means caring for those who suffer or feel abandoned because of the Covid-19 pandemic.” During this season Lent, we are called to “speak words of reassurance, and help others to realize that God loves them as sons and daughters.” A measure of our Lenten journey may be how well we care for one another. To assist our families in preparing for Lent this year, the Diocese of Hamilton has produced the following Ash Wednesday at Home resources: https://hamiltondiocese.com/lent2021/

Finally, we would like to leave you with some alternative suggestions that you may want to consider when fasting for Lent:

  • Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
  • Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
  • Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
  • Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
  • Fast from worries and have trust in God.
  • Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
  • Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
  • Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
  • Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
  • Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
  • Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

We wish you all of God’s blessings as you begin your own Lenten journeys.
