Information for Return to School Learning on Monday, January 17th

Dear Parents/Guardians,

First and foremost, we want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through these ever-changing and challenging timesAs you are aware, our students are returning to school on Monday, January 17th We are looking forward to seeing the bright and smiling faces of our students when they walk through the doors on Monday morning. Our Director of Education, Michael Glazier, sent an email to families yesterday regarding the return to in-person learning. We encourage each of you to please take some time to read through it, as this is the most up-to-date information we currently have from both the Ministry of Education and the Chief Medical Officer of Health If you haven’t received it, please refer to the following link: https://www.wellingtoncdsb.ca/apps/news/article/825460

In addition to this, there are a few salient items we would like to inform you about:

  1. 1. Required Screening: All students are required to use the updated screening tool provided by the Ministry of Education prior to coming to school each day. Please refer to the link: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

  1. 2. Teachers are required each morning to check-in with students by asking them if they have completed the COVID screening tool prior to coming to school each day. This may look different depending on the classroom, i.e., for kindergarten students, teachers may choose to ask parents during drop-off If your child or anyone in your household is exhibiting symptoms, please refer to the isolation requirements provided in the screening tool.
  2.
  1. 3. Some families may not feel comfortable returning to school on Monday. If this is the case and you plan to keep your child/children at home for the next week or two, we ask that you please contact your child’s teacher to let them know that your child/children will be away and the duration of their expected absence.  This will prompt the need for the completion of an Intent to be Absent Formwhich will be sent to you from the school. You will be asked to complete the form with the specified duration of the absence, sign and return it back to the school. This can be returned either in-person or electronically.  In such cases, your child will be expected to work asynchronously by checking the classroom D2L site daily and/or work through a school package at your child’s teacher’s discretion.
  1.
  2. 4. Borrowed Devices: Several families have borrowed devices from the school. At this time, you are able to hold-on to the device for the next 2-3 weeks in the event that we may be required to return to remote/on-line learning. If you feel that you do not want to hold-on to the device at this time, you are more than welcome to return it to the school (please include the lending form that was provided, if possible).
  3.
  1. 5. Visitors: At this time, we are asking parents/guardians and all visitors NOT to enter the school.  If you do need to come to the school, please remain outside and call the office (519 843 3810) from outside the building. Please refer to signs posted at the front entrance of the school.

We thank you in advance for your diligence in helping to keep everyone in our school community as safe as possible.
